We now offer an AI service on top of our existing synchronising programmes. This is run by our Vet Tech Jenni.
One of the main advantages of AI is reducing the disease/TB risk. Most beef herds now vaccinate/test for infectious diseases such as IBR, BVD, and Johne’s. These are the most common diseases spread due to buying in non-vaccinated cattle. AI can also be used to tighten calving patterns/block calving.
A cow’s conception rate depends on many factors such as: her body condition score, the synchronisation protocol and how strong/regular her natural heats are. Making sure not to change the diet before syncing is a must. Also, a good handling system is important to keep the animal calm. To have the best possible outcome from using AI, it requires for the cow to be ovulating when the AI is performed. To produce ovulation at a specific time it involves giving a sequence of hormone injections and a prid.

AI calls will need to be in before 9am to guarantee same day service.
If going to be a daily AI call for certain weeks of year / serving at a certain time of year, please let us know in advance so we can get you in the diary!
We will have a small selection of bulls in our flask for you to choose from but if you want to use a certain bull, please let us know so we can arrange this. Semen can be stored in our flask, but there is a charge of £5 per straw.
If semen paid for by us from semen company, cost of shipping the straws will be included in straw cost per cow.
